Hi doll-making friends,
Thanks for all of your registrations. We have about 40 participants registered so far and will have to cap at absolute maximum of 60. Pre-registration is required by Monday, August 8th, so if still considering signing up, please let us know asap!
Just sending you some exciting updates about the August 13th event.
Location: Boughton Place, Highland, NY. Date: August 13. Time: 9-4 (but might stretch a bit longer). Transportation information is on Boughton Place website.
We have a full roster of programming planned throughout the day, but DWD participants will have opportunities to get up and stretch their legs to visit vendor tables, view exhibits, chat with dollmaking friends and more. Schedule will be posted soon.
Christa Light from Paverpol USA will be giving a two-hour workshop from 10am-noon on Adding Movement, Dimension and Texture with Paverpol. She will provide Paverpol products. Participants can bring their own forms—surfaces, armature, etc. (non-plastic). Christa will offer flat doll or goddess forms for purchase. (If interested in purchasing, please let us know beforehand.) More details forthcoming.
Dallas Sills will be giving a presentation on making beautiful Boutis wings. She will offer patterns for purchase and provide advice. More details on the way.
Ileana Hernandez Carafas will be giving a demo on Working with Various Clays--Which clays work best for specific projects? How do you avoid breakage, "moonies", cracks, etc? Which clays blend seamlessly? How do you mix different clays? How do you condition clay and store it? And more.
Patricia Davis will be offering critiques for doll artists throughout the day (when she’s not attending demos). Pat is an artist very skilled in the art of facial expression, particularly with older faces in polymer clay. She is a great resource for doll artists wishing to hone skills on realistic faces. If interested in signing up for personal advice/critique, please sign up: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each participant is invited to bring two show-and-tell dolls and to submit one additional doll for the challenge (see below).
Don’t forget to bring a doll for our “Metamorphosis” challenge! [Reminder: While you can look at this challenge literally in its biologic sense, the theme’s focus is on the idea of rebirth, renewal, and transformation. Challenge Doll Rules: 1) Contest is open to all attendees of DWD 2016. 2) Limit of one entry per person for this challenge. 3) Dolls must be one-of-a-kind and can be made of any medium or craft. 4) Contest dolls will be displayed on separate table and must be available for display by 12 noon.]
Some great things in store! If you and your group want to donate gifts for goody bags, let us know asap!
We have several great product vendors interested in participating. We will be sending out a list of vendors with next update. There is still some time for vendors to sign up, so let us know asap if interested and we will send you vendor application.
New-in-box doll donated from Robert Tonner.
Several bundles of Art Doll Quarterly have been donated by the magazine.
A polymer clay oven.
A pasta roller (for clays).
More to come, hopefully. If you have items to donate, please let us know asap.
All participants are invited to bring fabrics, notions and whatnot to place on our share table where dollmakers can select items for free that they will use for their upcoming projects!

TWO OTHER REMINDERS FOR DOLL ARTISTS
1) The Uncanny Gallery of Dolls and Figurative Art in uptown Kingston, NY is almost ready to officially open its doors, and we would welcome some more pieces in the gallery. So make some space in your home where all your lovely dolls are taking up room and try selling them in our gallery! There is a weekly Saturday Farmer’s Market , a First-Saturday gallery walk, the popular Chronogram Block Party on August 20th, the O + Festival October 7-9, all taking place just a block and a half away! If interested, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org . Official opening in September, but we are there already!
2) The doll display at the Wiltwyck Quilters Guild Show is taking place on October 8th & 9th, 2016. Five to six hundred people attend this biennial exhibit, and the dolls are always a big hit. Artists can display up to four dolls. (Please note: it will be possible for you to have dolls that are in Uncanny Gallery or DWD brought to WQG show—just let us know. It’s a big weekend in this area with the O + Festival happening too!) To register for WQG show, contact Denise Giardullo at email@example.com. Deadline upcoming!
